Wire & Cable Harnesses

Wire-harnesses are, to contemporary devices, like the human circulatory and nervous systems are to a body—both transport energy and data from place to place. Like in a human, errors and faults in harnesses can result in severe degradation or even complete failure of a system.

Nearly half—49%—of all wire-harness problems can be traced directly to poor workmanship. Knowing this,
Juscom, Inc. adheres to, and actually exceeds IPC/WHMA-A-620B Class 3 standards for all work, even when the customer is not using the harness in safety-critical applications.

Examples of where we exceed IPC/WHMA-A-620B standards include our monitoring of crimp quality. Each crimp is monitored in real-time as it is formed, the force profile used to accept or reject the crimp. Crimp samples are also periodically cross-sectioned to ensure the profile conforms to best-practice standards. Periodic pull-force and cross-section measurements---indicators of crimp quality---are also taken as part of our quality control process.

IPC/WHMA-A-620 Product Classes

IPC/WHMA-A-620 defines three classes of product:

  • Class 1: General Electronic Products
Includes products suitable for applications where the major requirement is the function of the completed assembly.

  • Class 2: Dedicated Service Electronic Products
Includes products where the continued performance and extended life is required, and for which uninterrupted service is desired but not critical. Typically, the end-use environment would not cause failures.
  • Class 3: High Performance Electronic Products
Includes products where continued performance or performance-on-demand is critical, equipment downtime can- not be tolerated, end-use environment may be uncommonly harsh, and the equipment must function when required, such as life support systems and other critical systems.

Most customers do not need Class 3 quality. However, because excellent quality requires that only one quality standard and culture be used in an organization, Juscom, Inc. works only to Class 3 standards.
